My sister got me some new Copic markers for Christmas!
So I decided to finally have a go at drawing and coloring something beyond the basic shading I did in Inktober.
I decided on a basic self-portrait.
Not terrible for a first attempt. I rushed through the drawing so I could get to the coloring.
The drawing sucks, but the coloring isn’t terrible. I’m especially pleased with the shading on the hat.
Things I learned: you cannot erase pencil after using these markers. Note to do that going forward next time.
Doing the edges first and then blocking in results in inadvertent rim shading.
Learn how to draw clothes. It is NOT all cake once you get the body drawn.
Also realized I unconsciously avoided hands and feet, so I need to make a point not to Liefeld any more.
The other half of the @mikeymegamega tutorial on “gym fit girls”.
Digital instead of pencil definitely has an impact on how well I do, but it’s because the tablet is more sensitive. Once I’m more confident in my drawing, the lines won’t wobble as much.
From another MikeyMegaMega tutorial. Needta be able to draw those heroines. Took me an hour to do the first 15 minutes of this 30 minute video. I’d do the second half but I gotta get up in six hours for work. Tomorrow, I reckon.
Second half will focus on upper body musculature, as opposed to lower.
Another tutorial from the anime specialist, lol.
Torso on the right is a little long, but not bad overall, I guess. Still trying to ingrain the structure so that I don’t need to be walked through it.
Anime tutorials by MikeyMegaMega on youtube. This guy really knows his anime… proportions…
I learn a whole lot from his tutorials.
One came up because it’s Christmas themed. And then the playlist just seemed too good to stop. Will definitely be revisiting.
Anime eyes. The penciling isn’t bad but the brush pen remains a thorn in my side.
So I drew these traditionally about a year ago, and decided to revisit them digitally. They’re from Mark Crilley’s book “Mastering Manga” and I do see some improvement. If I can find where I put the old ones, I’ll post them too.
