Inktober 2017 – Day 5: “Long”

I got a little more ambitious with this after yesterday’s drawing.

Wanted to try the cool gray copics instead of the neutral grays I’ve been using, but it was so dark it obscured some of the linework. Redid it with thicker pen, but that made it look a little sloppy.

Not super thrilled with the spaghetti either, and apparently the white pencil doesn’t go on as smooth as I thought it did, which is irksome.

Still, not a total loss.

Inktober 2017 – Day 4: “Underwater”

I’m not super pleased with the teeth on the left side of the upper jaw, as they got lost in the heavy linework. And the grey marker behind the glowy thing looks a bit slapdash, but I left my midtone book at home and needed something to put behind the white pencil.

I’m pretty pleased with the angle and perspective, since I used a reference image that was at a different angle, and I really like how the marker in the mouth turned out to give depth.

Inktober 2017 – Day 2: “Divided”

Day two of Inktober for this year has the prompt “Divided”. I decided to stick with a Hallowe’en theme, though I’m not sure how long I’ll do that. Reckon it depends on both the prompts, and my artistic ability.

I’m actually VERY happy with how the Copic markers shaded, particularly the main shadow under the cranium of the skull, and the shadows in the skull worked well with the addition of a white pencil. I regret not showing more of the axe handle, because all I’m picturing is Yondu from GotG 2, but still, overall I’m quite happy with it. I have learned that the red pencil is not my ideal sketching option, as it doesn’t like to erase. Ah, well… this is how we learn.

Inktober 2017 – Day 1: “Swift”

The Day 1 prompt for Inktober this year is “Swift”, and since it’s October, I figured I’d draw a flying bat. In retrospect, I probably could’ve drawn him diving or something, but this is how it came out. I don’t think it looks that bad, since I was honestly going for a little cartoony, but the direction of the speed lines just doesn’t seem right.  Ah, well, it is what it is. I can compare this to next year’s and see what happens.

I am quite happy with the new Copic markers and the new white pencil in the new mid-tone sketchbook. It really adds a lot.

NOTE: Apparently, even though it’s 10/1 here, it’s still loading as 10/2, so I’m guessing the server calendar is set to GMT or something that’s ahead of me by at least an hour. Rest assured, I am not behind on this Inktober challenge.
…for the very few of you reading this…

Dismas: Revisited

I got some new grey copic markers, a new mid-tone sketchbook, and a white pencil today, so I thought I’d revisit my character in the Vampire Dark Ages game I’m playing. The light in this picture kind of washes it out, but I still think all the new tools really helped add some depth to the image.

He’s gained some light leather armor since the last picture, which is why that’s been included. Apparently he’s lost his feet, though?

…I just got distracted by the armor and forgot to go back and do the feet, and didn’t realize until I’d already put the white outline down there. Eh, maybe they’ll grow back for the next go ’round.
